Join us on one of our ‘once in a life time’ Whale watching tours and you may get the opportunity to swim with these incredible animals. If this is something you have dreamed about doing, don't hesitate in doing it. With just a bit of planning, you will find yourself swimming with whales in no time and having the experience of a life time.
Humpback whales are both conceived and born in the warmer tropical waters. After a calf is born, its mother stays close to shore, resting and feeding her newborn.
Often, mother and calf pairs are accompanied by a third whale, dubbed an 'escort'. Thois escort, usually male, stays with the mother and calf for less than a day, with most associations lasting only a few hours.
Large groups called competition groups form when many males pursue one receptive female. The competition can be quite dramatic to watch in this 'heat run'. In 2008, the BBC used our boats to successfully film previously undocumented heat runs for their new series 'Life'.
When the conditions are right, it is possible to get in the water and snorkel with these magnificent animals. Under Tongan law, you will be accompanied at all times in the water by a fully trained guide, with maximum 4 people at a time allowed with the whales.
Our policy is to bring maximum 8 passengers on any of our whale watch boats, so there are no more than 2 groups of swimmers, in order to give you the maximum chance of having the best experience out there.
